About My Sakinah

Rooted in care. Guided by compassion. Built for community.

Our Story

Where It All Began

My Sakinah was born out of a deeply felt gap — the reality that many Muslims and culturally diverse individuals seeking mental health support encounter systems that do not understand them. Too many people have been told their faith is an obstacle rather than a resource. Too many families have sat in offices where their cultural context was lost in translation — literally and figuratively.

Sakinah — a word rooted in the Arabic for tranquility, peace, and presence — reflects our core belief: that healing is not the absence of struggle, but the discovery of stillness and purpose within it. It is a word that appears in the Quran to describe the peace that Allah places in the hearts of believers at their most difficult moments.

My Sakinah was founded to bridge the gap between evidence-based mental health care and the lived realities of Muslim and ethnoculturally diverse communities across Canada and beyond. We believe that you should never have to choose between your faith, your culture, and your mental health.

Our Purpose

Our Mission

Supporting individuals and families with culturally sensitive, faith-affirming mental health care and compassionate services rooted in empathy. We exist to make quality mental health support accessible to those who have historically been underserved.

Our Vision

A world where everybody — regardless of background, age, gender, or location — can access mental health support in a way that respects their faith and culture. We envision communities where mental health is spoken about openly, without shame or stigma.

What We Stand For

Our Values

💙

Compassion

We approach every interaction with genuine care, empathy, and a deep respect for the dignity of each person we serve.

🌍

Cultural Sensitivity

We honor the rich diversity of our communities — recognizing that culture shapes how mental health is understood, expressed, and healed.

🌙

Faith-Affirming Care

Faith is not separate from mental health — it is central to it for many of those we serve. We affirm and integrate spirituality as a source of healing and strength.

🔓

Accessibility

Mental health care should not be a privilege. We work toward making quality support available to all, regardless of income, language, or location.

🤝

Community

Healing happens in relationship. We are rooted in community — working alongside families, faith institutions, and organizations to build collective wellbeing.
